"Hey, where did you get that cigarette?" the soldier said to Mike.

"I have a pack, but it was Will who lit it," he said, pointing at me.

"Well, in that case, I want one too. I've been working since morning," added the doctor, whose name I believe is Jared.

"If Jared's going to have one, then give me one too," the soldier added.

-Well, well, but I want to save matches.

I was taken to a larger cabin where there were many beds. I think they call this area a barracks. I approached a bed that seemed empty and left my sleeping bag. At that moment, a young man between twenty and twenty-five years old entered carrying a uniform.

"So you're the new one. They told me I had to bring you your uniform, but I didn't know they let children into the army," he says jokingly, though all I'm thinking about is attacking him, and he notices.

- Calm down, it was a joke. My name is Jeffrey Bird, a member of the Third Infantry Regiment platoon.

"Sorry for taking this too seriously. My name is William Featherstone," I said, shaking his hand.

"Nice to meet you, now put on your uniform. We have to go train." After saying that, he tosses me the uniform and heads outside while I try to put on the suit that will help me achieve glory. After finishing putting on my uniform, I head out to the field, and although I didn't know exactly where I was supposed to go, seeing Jeffrey with many other soldiers, I hurried over so I wouldn't miss anything important.

-Hi Jeffrey. What did I miss?

-Not much, I figured you'd need a rifle, so I got you one.

"Thank you very much." At that moment, a 45-year-old man appeared in front of us, wearing a smart uniform, a cowboy hat, and an intimidating look. I assumed he would be the one to train us.

"Listen very carefully, soldiers. Today we'll march from here to the mountain. If you fall behind, you'll be punished by not eating. On the way back, we'll practice marksmanship in a line. You'll be given a time to eat, and then we'll repeat the routine. Is that clear?"

"Sir, yes sir!" the others said, although I didn't do it in time and the man in front of me noticed.

"Tell me, young man, why didn't you respond to the order?" Seeing him, I felt my blood run cold. If I were in a fight, this guy would destroy me with a single blow.

"Sorry, sir. It's my first day," I tried to say with difficulty, but at least he understood me.

"Okay, soldier. I'll let it slide this time. But remember, you must do what I say and answer when I say it's clear. If you fail again, there will be consequences." All I could do was nod, as it was the safest thing I could do.
